About the role
Biofactory is the autonomous-lab discipline of Aether. The agents propose campaigns and pick the next plate; the runtime drives the actual liquid handlers, plate readers and dispensers in the customer's lab. The integration layer between agent intent and instrument motion is non-trivial — we run real chemistry through real hardware in regulated environments.
This is a founding role. We are looking for someone who has integrated with liquid-handling instruments before, or whose background is close enough to learn it quickly.
What you'll do
- Build and maintain instrument-driver integrations across the major liquid-handling, acoustic-dispensing, and plate-reading platforms.
- Own the chain-of-custody implementation that makes ALCOA+ compliance a property of the runtime.
- Pair with customer chemistry teams during the first 2–4 weeks of every wet-lab deployment.
- Be present on-site for customer kickoffs when needed.
Who we're looking for
- Lab-automation background. You have written code that drives a real instrument and you know what goes wrong when it does.
- Comfortable in regulated environments. You understand GxP, 21 CFR Part 11, ALCOA+; you have been audited at least once.
- Strong systems-engineering instincts. The bug is usually in the I/O.
Bonus
- Prior chemistry or biology training.
- Experience with the SiLA-2 protocol or with open-source robotics platforms.
