About the role
Trust and safety at Apex is engineered, not promised. The team owns refusal-corpus methodology, capability-gating architecture, audit-trace infrastructure, the external red-team programme, and the regulatory engagement that makes sovereign deployments possible.
This is the senior role on the team and reports to the CEO.
What you'll do
- Set the technical direction for the safety architecture across releases.
- Run the external red-team programme; commission and review the quarterly findings.
- Engage with regulators — FDA, EMA, DoD, equivalent international bodies — on the platform's safety posture.
- Co-author the safety papers and represent the work publicly.
Who we're looking for
- Senior safety engineering background. You have led a safety team at an AI lab or comparable scale, or you have a security-engineering background and the desire to apply it to model safety.
- Comfortable in regulated environments. You have spoken with regulators before; the experience was constructive.
- Direct, technical, and unafraid of difficult conversations.

- Biosecurity or dual-use research-policy background.
- Prior contribution to a published model-safety methodology.
